This pier (above) was located under the curved track at the west end of this bridge.
Note  the  tapered  design  of the  top  of  this  pier.   The  purpose  of  this  taper
was to  raise  the outer rail  slightly  above  the inner rail.   This feature, known
as superelevation or cant, is a standard design of any curved railway track.
